Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how NeighborFit ("NeighborFit", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use our website, applications, and services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information you provide
- Account information — your email address and authentication credentials (passwords are hashed by our authentication provider; we never store them in plain text). If you sign in with a third-party provider such as Google, we receive basic profile information from that provider.
- Legal acknowledgements — the date you accepted these Terms and this Privacy Policy.
- User content — research sessions, saved findings, preferences, and any shareable links you create.
- Communications — information you provide when you contact support.
1.2 Information collected automatically
- Usage data — features and pages accessed, search queries and AI-agent interactions, map viewport and active-layer selections, and session timestamps and duration.
- Device and log data — IP address, browser type, operating system, and similar technical information collected through standard server logs.
- Cookies and local storage — used for authentication, session management, and preferences (see Section 6).
1.3 Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number or other sensitive payment details. We retain limited billing references such as your subscription status, plan, and a customer identifier provided by Stripe.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and secure the Service;
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you;
- Process subscriptions, payments, and billing;
- Generate AI-assisted analysis in response to your queries;
- Personalize and improve your experience, including remembering preferences and prior research;
- Communicate with you about updates, security notices, and support requests;
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
Legal bases (for users in the EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the bases of performance of a contract (to provide the Service), our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service), your consent (where required, such as for certain cookies), and compliance with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
- Service providers (processors) who act on our behalf, including:
- Stripe — payment processing;
- OpenAI — AI processing of your queries to generate analysis;
- Hosting and infrastructure providers that operate the Service.
- Public data providers are sources we read from (such as government GIS services); we do not send your personal information to them.
- Legal and safety — when we believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of NeighborFit, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
When you create a public share link, the contents of that shared session become accessible to anyone who has the link.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We also retain information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit (TLS), secure authentication, and row-level security policies on our database tables. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use essential cookies and local storage for authentication, session continuity, and remembering your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or using parts of the Service.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access and export your personal data — you can download an archive of your data from Account Settings;
- Delete your account and associated data — available from Account Settings;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Opt out of non-essential communications.
To exercise rights not available directly in the app, contact us at privacy@neighborfit.app. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
8. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States and process data there. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may reference or link to third-party websites and data sources. This Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. We encourage you to review their policies.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
